Roman Sheremeta, Ph.D., is a Professor of Economics and Chair of the Economics Department at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. He is also the Founding Rector of American University Kyiv, which he helped establish in 2022. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Purdue University and has received numerous research and teaching accolades, including the 2018 Smith Ascending Scholar Prize for a “budding genius” in social science. Sheremeta was recognized as a Top Economic Thinker of Ukrainian Descent by Forbes in 2015, ranked among the top young economists globally by IDEAS in 2018, and named one of the Best 40 Under 40 Professors by Poets & Quants in 2019. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he has been actively engaged in delivering humanitarian aid and advancing initiatives to support the country’s recovery and reconstruction, including his service on the National Recovery Council, an advisory body to the President of Ukraine. He is a fellow at the Centre for Eastern European Democracy and a board member of Save Ukraine and Ukrainian American House, organizations dedicated to returning abducted Ukrainian children and supporting the Ukrainian people.
