Speaker BIO

Dr. Chiyuki Aoi is Professor of International Security at the Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP), the University of Tokyo, where she directs the Strategic Communications Education and Research Unit (SCERU), established in 2022 with support from the European Union. She serves on the Editorial Board of Defence Strategic Communications, the official journal of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence (COE) in Riga, and teaches globally in executive and professional diploma courses on strategic communications, including in London, Riga, and across the Indo Pacific. She also teaches at Japan’s Joint Staff College at multiple levels. She previously served on the Shinzo Abe Cabinet’s Council on Security and Defense Capabilities and has held visiting positions at King’s College London’s Department of War Studies, as well as professional posts at UNHCR in Geneva and the United Nations University in Tokyo. She holds degrees from Sophia University, MIT and Columbia University, and is the author of more than 40 publications. She has also delivered over 70 invited lectures and panel presentations worldwide.
