Mr. Wataru Suyama is a Senior Analyst at Constella Security Japan, specializing in cybersecurity and information operations in the cognitive domain. With over five years of experience researching and analyzing hybrid threats, he provides actionable intelligence to clients in the public sector—government, defense, diplomacy, and law enforcement—as well as to large enterprises. His primary focus is on threats posed by various geopolitical actors in East Asia, with particular attention to Japan.In addition to his client-focused work, Mr. Suyama contributes to public discourse on cyber and cognitive threats through numerous research papers and reports. Among his key achievements are analyses of information operations surrounding COVID-19 in Italy (2020), the Tokyo Olympics (2021), and comparative studies on Russian and Ukrainian information operations during the Russia–Ukraine war(2022). He has also authored white papers on cyberattacks targeting Japan (2021–2023).Since 2023, Mr. Suyama has expanded his research to examine the impact of generative AI on discourse trends in cognitive operations on social media. Most recently, he presented insights on discussions related to GenAI usage during the Taiwan presidential election, the Tokyo gubernatorial election, and the Japan House of Representative election (2024). His analyses have been featured in major Japanese media outlets, including Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) and The Nikkei.
